Garden Hand
Concept
This assignment was inspired by a collection of art Mr. Chad found that depicted different objects, characters, and settings drawn in the shape of a hand. Each of us were instructed to try and do the same. The final result could be anything we wanted it to be as long as it fit into a hand shape. A lot of us, including myself, traced their hand on paper first to get a better idea of what they wanted to draw.

Final Draft
NOTE: The linework is still being edited to make the points finer on the fur/feathers
near the top of the page.
In the foreground, there is a wrinkled slug sitting atop a small stump or wooden pole.
A crow squawks just behind it, eyes wide and vacant as the slug watches it nervously.
Behind the crow, a rabbit is peering around to see the slug, perhaps wordlessly
communicating with the slug. Together, they could be concocting some sort of plan
to cooperate and defeat the crow, or maybe the rabbit is offering his sympathy for
what are inevitably the last moments of the slug's life.
Reflection
This is actually one of my favorite digital works to date. I am especially proud of myself when I consider that I made the entire thing in about ninety minutes with a mouse. I feel that the image has a good balance of cartoonish style and creepy design concepts. The eye on the crow in particular is quite startling. I am very pleased with the way the image balances out and with the color palette, and I feel that this is an excellent example of the kind of work I can do when I'm properly inspired. The hand pattern is clear in the outlines of the drawing, so I feel that this project easily fulfills the requirements.
